The Boston Red Sox is an American baseball club from Boston, Massachusetts. The club was founded in 1901 and was then called Boston Americans. The team won the first World Series in 1903. The Red Sox play their games in the Major League. The club plays in the Eastern Division of the American League. The Boston Red Sox stadium is Fenway Park, which opened on April 20, 1912. The Boston Red Sox have won the World Series nine times: in 1903, 1912, 1915, 1916, 1918, 2004, 2007, 2013, and 2018.

Ted Williams

Williams, a 19-time All-Star and a Red Sox lifer, won two AL MVPs and finished in the top-10 on 10 other occasions. He won six AL batting titles and four home run crowns. The scariest thing about Ted Williams' numbers is that he lost three full seasons due to World War II and most of another two seasons due to the Korean War. "The Splendid Splinter" was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1966 and his number, nine, was retired by the Red Sox in 1984.

The team officially adopted the Boston Red Sox name in 1908, adapting it from the Boston Red Stockings, the original name of Boston's first professional baseball team (now the Atlanta Braves ).
